Cookie is Microart's proprietary software application for purchasing, managing, and installing Microart products. Cookie includes a graphical interface along with a command-line interface to best suit your use case. Cookie is our new package manager for installing different libraries and programs. Cookie is also the first package manager to contain a complete user interface for organizing and managing all your programs, including programs installed from other sources. Cookie also links with Steam, Epic Games, Blizzard, and other game launchers to import all your installed games directly into Cookie.
Microart Cookie is still under initial development. We are constantly working to improve, add, and finalize features in Cookie to provide the best user experience but still cannot provide a set-in-stone release date.
Cookie lets you import applications from other package managers including:
The windows store
Any win32 application
NPM
Yarn
Steam
Epic Games
GOG
Uplay
and more to come.
Cookie contains a complete extensions framework to extend the functionality of Cookie completely. For more information on creating extensions view the Developing Extensions page.
You can install extensions directly from within the Cookie store. Simply search for the name of the extension and click filter. From check the 'Extensions' filter to show extensions in the search result.
Installing an extension can be done in two ways.
The first and recommended way to do so is from the search box. Search for the extension and press 'Install Extension'. Any extensions installed from the Cookie store are verified and scanned to ensure their safety.
The second way is sideloading extensions. This requires Cookie to be put into developer mode. Simply press 'About Cookie' in the developer menu and click the small text that says 'Experimental Features'. From here check 'Developer Mode' and return to cookie. Now you should be able to drag and .cookie file onto Cookie to install it.
Enabling developer mode disables some Cookie Security Features. Purchases and other important actions may be routed through your browser instead of Cookie for the time being. Reversing developer mode will disable all extensions and apps installed with developer mode.
Purchases are securely processed with Microart Transact and details are never stored for any purpose. Payment methods may be added to your Microart ID but the actual information will be kept encrypted and, in the cloud, never on the device.
Purchasing content is as simple as finding what you want, pressing buy, and filling in the payment details. Purchased content is available for download immediately once the transaction has been authorized.
Cookie also has many apps that use a subscription-based model. Because Cookie only handles purchases and installing the content, not content integrity and security, the installed app will need to handle the subscriptions. Cookie, however, does provide an API to allow developers to easily handle transactions rather than implementing their own methods.
